From Elsevier's ["open access mirror journals"](https://www.elsevier.com/about/open-science/open-access/open-access-journals/mirror-journals) page:

> To meet the evolving needs of our community and expand our open access publishing options, we are piloting the concept of open access “mirror journals”. These journals are fully gold open access but share the same editorial board, aims and scope and peer review policies as their existing “parent” journals – and the same level of visibility and discoverability.

The [page](https://www.elsevier.com/about/open-science/open-access/open-access-journals/mirror-journals) lists more than 40 journals—each identical to its "X"-less sibling except for gold OA.

How is this mirror-journal nonsense not a blatant—almost comically evil—end run around the [coming Plan S ban on hybrid journals](https://www.coalition-s.org/addendum-to-the-coalition-s-guidance-on-the-implementation-of-plan-s/principles-and-implementation/)? Elsevier, a year ago, was [warned](https://www.coalition-s.org/addendum-to-the-coalition-s-guidance-on-the-implementation-of-plan-s/principles-and-implementation/), but seems to have [doubled down](https://www.elsevier.com/about/open-science/open-access/open-access-journals/mirror-journals).
